Open Adoption: Not So Simple Math

Jason came across a great New York Times article from Jason Kovacs, an adoption advocate whose blog Jason follows. The article is so great and worth the read! It does a great job of expressing some of the beautiful and painful truths of open adoption . . . some of the things I have felt but never been able to put in words and most likely some of the things Abram's birth family has felt as well.

Speaking of Abram's birth family, we got a package from Tia Leti shortly after Abram's birthday. It was full of many priceless photos and notes. My favorite picture is of Abram's sister, brother and Tia Leti, singing and clapping with smiles on their faces . . . with a birthday cake with ONE candle in it sitting in front of them.

They were singing Happy Birthday to Abram and celebrating his birthday. In Texas. Hundreds of miles away.

How incredibly sweet and priceless is that?! In addition to cake they had pizza and the kids wrote letters to Abram. Tia Leti is the best!
